Deze aantasting van het slijmvlies zorgt ervoor dat er als het ware kleine gaatjes ontstaan in de barri\u00e8re van de darmwand.<br \/>Hierdoor kunnen (ook vervelende) stofjes vanuit de darmen ons lichaam binnen \u201clekken\u201d. Wanneer de darm te doorlaatbaar wordt en deze afvalstoffen door de darmwand heen gaan en in de bloedbaan terechtkomen is dit belastend voor het lichaam. De afvalstoffen verspreiden zich dan via de bloedbaan in het lichaam.
